Books I’d like to see

Salman Rushdie's novel "Midnight's Children" is considered one of the best books of the 20th century, but here's the novel I'd really like him to publish:

Midnight's children

Yann Martel won the Booker Prize for his novel "Life of Pi," but here's the novel he should have written:

Life-of-pi

Jhumpa Lahiri won the Frank O' Conner award for her collection of short stories "Unaccustomed Earth," but here's the book I really wanted her to publish:

Unaccustomed earth

Khaled Hosseini's novel "The Kite Runner" sold zillions of copies and was made into a movie, but here's the book I wish he had written:

If you enjoyed this piece, you'll love Melvin's novel Bala Takes the Plunge, available in North America through Amazon.com and McNallyRobinson.com You can also find it at major bookstores in India and Sri Lanka or online at FlipKart, IndiaPlaza, FriendsofBooks or other sites. A number of readers have written reviews of the novel. An excerpt of the novel can be read here.
